Gisell Álvarez
I am a licensed psychologist and sex therapist in Colombia, where I was born in Pereira, one of the main cities of Colombia's coffee region. I am also a licensed professional counselor intern (LPC-Intern) in the state of Texas, and I am supervised by Mary Contreras, LPC-S. I graduated from The University of Texas in San Antonio with a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Currently, I work at The Center for Health Care Services, and Enlightened Behavioral Health Services, where I practice psychotherapy.
As a psychology student, I was deeply influenced by qualitative research and post-modern paradigms. As a researcher, I felt in love with socio-constructivism and the narrative theory, both of which currently operate as my compass when I practice. In my free time, I favor dissolute behavior and indulge myself with my three biggest passions: books, films, and television. I love stories, I love to read them, watch them, and tell them. Story-telling, in my opinion, is one of the most effective cathartic resources we have, individually and collectively, as a society.
This pop culture we live in is such a fascinating universe. I hope you and I can meet in the middle of it, while we try to understand ourselves better, or just enjoy a common starting point in a discussion of the human struggles of becoming happier and making sense of our subjective and communal realities.
